BMW Serie 3 - Video tutorial

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006
Part: Power Steering Motor
Operation: Power steering pump replacement

If it happens often to top up the power steering oil tank then it means that there is a leak in the hydraulic system (pump, pipes, steering box). The power steering pump is located inside the engine compartment, in the lower right front position: when the car is raised on the bridge, the power steering pump pulley is the first on the right. Then unhook the auxiliary belt, remove the pump drive pulley and therefore the pump itself: the leak is generally due to wear of the oil seal which is located right on the drive shaft. Therefore, replace the pump with a new or reconditioned one and if necessary also replace the pipes and the oil tank inside which the filter is located.
