Honda Civic - Video tutorial

Model: Honda Civic MK 6 - Years 1995-2001
Part: Engine
Operation: Oil pan gasket replacement

Open the front hood and make sure that it is supported in safety conditions; it is suggested to first carry out this repair with a cold engine to avoid unpleasant burns. In order to remove the oil pan, the exhaust manifold must first be removed. Then unscrew all the fixing nuts of the exhaust manifold, disconnect the lambda probe socket and unscrew the probe itself from the manifold. Therefore, apply a jack in the front (in front of the exhaust manifold) and lift the car: apply car stands for safety. At this point, unscrew the fixing pins of the flange that couples the exhaust manifold to the muffler and, returning to the engine compartment, remove the manifold by pulling it out from below. Now it is possible to drain the engine oil by unscrewing the drain plug on the oil pan (obviously the oil filter will also have to be replaced) and then proceed with the disassembly of the sump by removing the pins along the edges. Once the oil pan has been removed, remove the old gasket from the edge, clean it thoroughly, sprinkle it with gasket putty and apply the new gasket making it adhere properly (apply the putty also on the other face of the gasket). Then reassemble the cup by tightening the relative fixing pins; reassemble the manifold (applying the mastic on the relative gasket), the lambda probe and fill the engine with new oil according to the SAE specifications and the quantities indicated in the use and maintenance manual.

We start by inserting the key but leaving it in the initial position, after which we keep the accelerator pedal fully depressed and at the same time turn on the instrument panel. At this point, always keeping the accelerator pressed, press the brake pedal 5 consecutive times and, with the pedals in position, turn off the ignition.
