However, the biggest problem remains the contamination of diesel fuel in the oil due to the DPF (diesel particulate filter), caused by failed or interrupted regenerations, which leads to most of the structural failures. Since these vehicles burn about one liter of oil every 10,000 km, it is possible for the oil level to actually rise due to failed regenerations. It is necessary not to fill the oil tank completely during oil changes, but to leave it slightly above halfway, and once a week, we should check the oil level. If it decreases, we should not worry, and at most, add a little more oil. If it increases, it means there is diesel contamination, and we should replace the oil as soon as possible. The average oil change is at 8,000 km, according to statistics.
