Causes of malfunction of the SRS light on a Mercedes car
Model: Mercedes Classe C
W203
- Years 2000-2007
A problem that often occurs with Mercedes cars is the SRS warning light, which indicates an issue with the airbag. The most likely cause in this case is a faulty child seat recognition sensor. This component is located under the passenger seat and its purpose is to ensure that if there is a child on board, the airbag will not activate, as we know how dangerous the passenger airbag can be for small children. Mercedes has developed a system based on the passenger's weight: if it is less than 40 kg, the airbag will be automatically disabled, causing the warning light to come on. If the sensor malfunctions or is faulty, the warning light will still illuminate. This sensor is located under the seat padding and is a rather complex system, but can be easily found online. However, replacing it is not an easy task, due to the difficulty of repositioning it in the padding and reattaching the upholstery; not to mention that the component must be diagnosed again. We recommend having this work done by a specialized workshop, even if it may cost a bit more, as you will be sure of the result.
