The torque wrench is a special ratchet wrench that allows you to adjust the tightening torque value. The wrench indicates the maximum and minimum tightening values, but it is advisable not to reach them and stay within the central range.
To set the wrench, unlock the selector that is held in place by the screw at the bottom, so that you can move the arm. To increase the torque, turn the adjustment ring to the right, bringing it to the desired value, following the stamped numbers. Once you reach the desired value, lock the screw at the bottom again.
The click-type torque wrench gets its name from the fact that, having reached the desired torque, it locks with an audible click.
The price of the wrench is proportional to its quality.
It is recommended to use a long wrench for high torque values and vice versa.
It is not advisable to use unnecessary extensions as they would modify the wrench's action.
To tighten, for example, wheel bolts, it is advisable to position the wrench and push down with your hands at the end of the wrench until you hear the click; the sound indicates the desired tightening torque has been reached. Repeat the operation for all bolts and re-tighten for safety even those previously tightened.
At the end of use, it is advisable to set the adjustment ring to the minimum, so that the internal spring does not wear out.
This wrench can be considered a fundamental tool for DIY, to be used exclusively for tightening and not for screwing.
