Before proceeding with the removal of the belt to be replaced, it is essential to ensure that the relative positions of the crankshaft and the camshaft remain fixed, so as not to alter the engine's timing and risk serious damage. On the gear wheel fitted on the camshaft, there is an opening with a groove: the center of this groove is aligned with a hole on the cylinder head. Then, the crankshaft is locked with a stopper that is fixed to the base and has a toothed flange that engages with the shaft, locking it. The position of the camshaft gear is then checked by inserting a pin into openings arranged at 120° from the grooved one, corresponding to other centering holes on the cylinder head. At this point, the tensioner is loosened and the idler bearing of the distribution is removed. Then, the distribution gear wheel is removed by unscrewing the three screws that attach it to the shaft, and the belt is removed by sliding out the tensioner bearing. The coolant pump is also replaced by removing it after removing the screws that hold it in place. The tensioner bearing is then reassembled, taking care to insert it into the guide that regulates its eccentric movement. Now, the new belt can be inserted, engaging it with the camshaft gear and the crankshaft, and repositioning the elements as they were previously fixed. The gear wheel, the idler bearing, and the belt are then reassembled, and tension is applied to the belt by rotating the tensioner bearing and fixing it. The screws on the gear wheel must be tightened, and the stops that prevent the rotation of the shaft are removed. The positions are checked again, as at the beginning of the operation, and finally, the shaft is slowly rotated with a wrench to verify its correct movement.
