Replacing the steering tie rod ends of the Volkswagen Passat, model B5, is a fairly simple operation that can be done independently, thanks to our short video tutorial that will guide you through the steps to replace them. Let's begin the replacement operation by removing the tire cover and then the wheel itself. Continue the disassembly of the wheel by lifting the car and then clean the fastening element that connects the tie rod ends to the ball joint. After cleaning with a 15 mm socket wrench, unscrew the stem attachment nut from the ball joint and remove the fastening bolts. Use a hammer and chisel to remove the stem. At this point, loosen the counter nut of the tie rod end attachment to the bar with an 18 mm and a 22 mm wrench. Unscrew the stem and screw in a new steering rod end. Treat the threaded part of the rod end with copper grease and insert it to connect the stem to the ball joint, tighten the nut with a 13 mm wrench and install the bolt, tighten the locking nut and the counter nut. Tighten the various bolts and reassemble the wheel.
