Replacing the steering wheel with its related removal of the airbag requires expertise. It is a delicate operation that must be carried out with care and skill. The first step is to deactivate the airbag opening. Usually, we find a switch located on the dashboard that allows the deactivation of all installed airbags. The position of this device is well marked, and in case of uncertainty, refer to the car's user manual. The necessary tools are: a long 5/8" hex key, an extractor, and a 13/16" socket wrench. Start by unscrewing the sealing screws of the airbag block, accessible through the holes on the sides of the steering column, using the hex key. Loosen the screws and carefully pull the airbag cover, releasing the plastic fasteners. Once the airbag is removed, disconnect the two connectors located on the back of the airbag by releasing the small plastic tabs with a tool. Be careful not to drop the airbag module, do not place it near intense heat sources, do not take it away, do not shake it or hit it, as it could explode. Remove the screw on the column carefully and remove the wiring. Now it is possible to remove the fixing screw of the steering wheel from the column using a 13/16" tube wrench with an extension. Partially unscrew the screw but do not remove it as a precaution. Insert the appropriate extractor into the holes, being careful not to drop the screws. Screw the extractor, and when the steering wheel has come out of its seat, remove the extractor. Remove the steering wheel by hand, being very careful with the airbag cables.
