The Mercedes A-Class does not present too many problems and it is also possible to install either a continuously variable automatic transmission or a manual transmission. The manual transmission can have either 5 or 9 gears. The continuously variable automatic transmission may require many repairs. For example, the cost to repair the control block is €1600. The transmission is not very reliable and problems can arise with the half-shaft and/or the homokinetic joints. The headlight bulbs burn out quickly and are not easy to replace. The sunroof may have motor problems after a couple of years of use. All Mercedes engines are reliable, but if you want to buy a used A-Class, it would be good to check that it does not have factory problems and that it has had all of its scheduled maintenance.
