Answer

If when trying to turn on the Smart Fortwo it does not start and three horizontal lines appear on the display instead of the gears, it means that there is a problem with the gearbox that prevents starting. You can try to disconnect the battery for a couple of hours to solve the problem: if this is useless, you have to go to the workshop.
