In order to replace the hydraulic piston of the soft top on the Mercedes SL you have to tilt the backrests of the front seats forward and you will also have to remove the carpet that is located in the rear part of the car. Once this has been removed, it will be possible to identify the piston inside its housing: in order to remove it, the bolts located in the upper and lower part of the latter must be loosened.
