This guide describes how to replace the engine oil and oil filter on a 1980 Suzuki GS450L. Obtain 4 litres of Castrol Power SAE 10W40 oil and an HIFLO HF133 oil filter. Position the motorcycle on the centre stand. Start the engine, allow it to reach temperature, and then switch off. Place a container for the used oil underneath the engine. Use a ratchet and a 17 mm socket to remove the oil drain plug located under the engine. Allow the oil to drain and clean the plug thoroughly. Use a ratchet and a 10 mm socket to remove the three retaining screws from the oil filter cover located at the front of the engine. Replace the oil filter and the cover gasket, then reassemble. Refit the oil drain plug. Open the oil filler cap located on the right side of the crankcase. Pour in the oil, referencing the dipstick. Start the engine for one minute and switch off. Check the oil level again.
