The Suzuki Swift DDIS is equipped with the 1.3 MultiJet engine derived from Fiat and the distribution is chain; generally this type of distribution does not require periodic replacement like the rubber belt, but should be checked around 250,000 km. However, it is recognized that these chains tend to stretch and become noisy quite early due to oil contamination by diesel fuel from interrupted particle filter regenerations. The chain will therefore need to be replaced as soon as it becomes noisy, generally between 150,000 and 200,000 km.
