Unlike its predecessors, the Jeep Grand Cherokee MK IV has several issues that make it unreliable. Most of these are electrical problems, such as the ignition switch. Often, the voltage regulators provided by the manufacturer are defective, a problem that has even led to an official recall. Then there are aesthetic problems, such as the leather dashboard that wrinkles or develops bubbles. Another issue is the faulty transmission. Here too, there has been an official recall by the manufacturer. A defective switch causes the power brakes and power steering to often not work. In vehicles produced between 2012 and 2014, there may still be some with a defective alternator that can catch fire.
