To remove the steering wheel airbag on the Mini R56, you need to detach the plastic covers located on the three spokes of the steering wheel. Once these covers are removed, you can loosen all the screws underneath; additionally, by inserting a screwdriver into the hole at the back of the steering wheel, you will unlock the internal clips securing the airbag.

This can then be extracted from its housing, and the connector at the back will be disconnected. This way, you can connect the new one, securing it in its place with the appropriate screws.
