If the ESP warning light comes on on the instrument panel display and the rear brake light lamp indication appears, this is not the classic fault with the steering wheel angle sensor but the banal brake pedal switch: once the upholstery under the steering wheel has been removed, the switch in question is located next to the steering column joint, next to the brake pedal return spring.
