Answer

The third series of the Forester is equipped with a Boxer engine, so called because the movement of the pistons resembles the fists of a boxer, in fact the pistons move sideways from left to right and not up and down; for this reason the spark plugs are located on both sides of the engine, 2 on each side, and their replacement requires the removal of the battery on the driver's side and the engine air filter box on the passenger side.
