How to perform the automatic opening of the trunk for a BMW X3 E83 2003-2010

If you want to add automatic trunk opening to this type of car, you have two options: an aftermarket kit or a DIY approach with electric actuators. The simplest method is to install a kit with electric pistons connecting it to the power supply and the original remote control. Some manual skills are needed, first you have to remove the internal panels, connect the wiring and adjust the pistons for smooth opening. Some kits also allow for automatic closing with a key button. If you want a more economical solution, you can modify the original shock absorbers with more powerful gas springs, so the tailgate will lift by itself when unlocked. If you don't feel comfortable with DIY and consider these solutions difficult, I recommend contacting an experienced workshop.
