Some users have found it difficult to open the fuel cap with the key provided by Harley Davidson, often because they did not read the attached instructions carefully. The procedure is slightly different from that of common keyed caps found on cars but is not complicated at all. Slide the protective plate with the HD logo, hold the cap with two fingers, and insert the key into the lock. Turn it about a quarter turn until it stops, return it to the original position, and remove it. Turn the entire cap to the left and unscrew it from the filler neck. To close it, simply insert it and turn clockwise until it clicks.
