To reset the service light on a Mercedes SLK R170, the procedure varies slightly depending on whether the model is pre or post-facelift, but the logic is the same. Main method (valid for many R170): insert the key and turn to position 2 (ignition on). Within 1 second, press the adjustment button (the one under the speedometer, on the left) twice.

The current service due date will appear. Within 10 seconds, turn the key to position 0 (off). Hold down the same button and turn the key back to position 2, continuing to hold it down.

After about 10 seconds, you will hear a beep and the display will show the new interval (e.g., 9,300 miles). At that point, release the button.

On some post-facelift models (2000-2004), the sequence may require pressing the button twice in position 2, then turning off, then holding it down and turning back on. If the procedure does not work, you may need to check the alternator ground contact or, as a last resort, consult a workshop with diagnostic equipment.
