How to Adjust the Handbrake on a Renault Clio 3

Model: Renault Clio MK 3, Clio 3, Clio III - Years 2005-2013

This handbrake adjustment procedure applies to all French-built vehicles and is performed from the cabin. Access it easily from the centre console by removing the ashtray and the compartment where coins are usually placed. Carefully disconnect the diagnostic connector to avoid damage. Remove the cover of the centre tunnel, which is pressed in, by gently levering it off (as the plastic thickness is not excessive). Remove the handbrake gaiter, then release the handbrake lever using its screw, and secure the brake springs with a strap so that the cable is free. Go to the end of the cable and check that it is not frayed. Shorten it as necessary for your requirements by fitting a terminal, and at this point, you can release the springs and reinsert the lever. Test the cable tension and the handbrake travel. If satisfactory, reassemble everything in reverse order.
