How to change the oil and the oil filter of the Smart Fortwo 450

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007

To replace the oil and the oil filter on the Smart Fortwo, we go to the back of the car (where the engine is), remove the trunk floors, remove the bulkhead above the engine, remove the dipstick , the oil filler cap; we go under the car with a 13 socket wrench (in the video a modification was made to the oil sump by putting a bolt), we unscrew the bolt, we let the oil drain into a container; once the oil has been drained, clean the cap and its housing and screw it back on; screw the drain plug, unscrew the oil filter holder with a 27 socket wrench, let the oil drain into a container; while the oil drains, remove the filter from the filter holder, clean the filter holder, remove the old gasket, put in the new oil filter, fit the new gasket, clean the filter seat and screw it back on; go to the engine, insert a funnel into the oil filling hole, pour in about 3 liters of oil, when we are almost at 3 liters, check the level with the dipstick (the level must be checked the second time you remove the dipstick) and if the oil level has reached 3/4 of the level (not full) the level is fine, otherwise top up by making it reach 3/4. Finally, close the cap and replace the protection over the engine and the boot shelf.
