How to Remove the Air Conditioning Compressor on a Smart 451

To remove the air conditioning compressor from a Smart 451, lift the car to gain access to the underside of the engine compartment, which is located at the rear of the car in this model. Once you have access to this area, you can unscrew the bolts securing the part to free it from its housing. Before removing it, disconnect the cable located at the top of the compressor to completely remove it; after removal, you can install the new replacement part.
