In this video we see how to perform the self test on the Volkswagen climatronic: we have to simultaneously press the two buttons located at the right and left ends of the controls, after which we can turn on the instrument panel. Once this operation is done, we can release the two buttons at the same time. We can adjust the fan speed with the red and blue buttons: theoretically, with the red button we can increase the speed, while with the blue one we can decrease it. The "Econ" button performs the reset and returns to normal conditions.
