Replacing the Bearings on a Volkswagen Golf IV

The symptoms of a damaged bearing are a dull noise, like a rumble, that increases with speed; vibrations in the steering during turns and play in the wheel. To replace it, lift the car and place it on a jack; remove the wheel, disassemble the brake and disc, then unscrew the hub nut using an extension and breaker bar, disconnect the driveshaft from the hub using a puller. To remove the old bearing, remove the ABS sensor, unscrew the three bolts of the bearing support, extract the hub with an M12 threaded block and a hammer, press out the bearing from the hub carrier using a hydraulic press. Then, proceed to install the new bearing, cleaning the hub carrier with a wire brush and WD-40; install a new bearing, reassemble the hub and tighten the support bolts to 45 Nm. Lubricate the driveshaft stub with copper grease before reinserting it. Now, reassemble the disc and brake caliper, tighten the hub nut to 200 Nm + 180° angle, reattach the wheel and tighten the bolts to 120 Nm in a cross pattern.
