How to Replace the Third Brake Light on a Volkswagen Golf

To replace the third brake light on a Volkswagen Golf 6, open the tailgate and hold it in the open position. Remove the internal panel of the tailgate by releasing the clips with a plastic lever. Locate the third brake light unit at the top and disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the locking tab. Unscrew the fixing screws or release the clips holding the unit to the bodywork. Carefully pull the third brake light outwards. Position the new unit in the housing, secure it properly, and reconnect the connector. Refit the internal panel ensuring all clips are inserted. Press the brake pedal to check the correct operation of the light.
