To replace the timing chain on the Volkswagen Golf 5, open the bonnet to access the engine bay. Once you have access, remove the cover from the side of the engine to reach the pulleys. You will need to loosen the tensioner to reduce the chain tension and remove it from its housing. Replace it with a new spare part, ensuring it is properly tensioned by tightening the tensioner. After installation, refit the side cover of the engine.
