Removing the Boot Lock

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf III, MK 3, Golf 3 - Years 1991-1997
Part: Trunk lock

For this operation, you simply need two screwdrivers, one flat-head and one cross-head, along with the lock key. Remove the panel from the tailgate to access the mechanism, then start by removing the circlip located on the pivot that secures the plate controlling the movement, taking care not to let it spring away. Remove the linkages connected to the plate and pull it off the pivot. At this point, you can extract the faulty lock with the key from the opposite side. Replace the lock by inserting it with the key into the hole, refit the plate, reposition the circlip, reconnect the linkages, and apply a bit of oil for lubrication. Check the correct operation.
