To replace the air filter on a Yamaha R6, you need to pry off the fairings located on either side of the fuel tank using a tool. Once the screws located under these panels, along with those at the front of the tank, have been loosened, you will be able to lift the tank completely and remove it from its position.

Underneath, you will find the air filter box, which can be opened by sliding the filter out from its housing; this will allow you to insert the new replacement part and reassemble all previously removed components.
