Answer

This sensor is not a level sensor but a PRESSURE sensor and is activated (and therefore makes the warning light on the dashboard come on) when the oil no longer has the right pressure. Of course, even a worn brake can lower the oil pressure. This is why, usually, when the brake fluid warning light comes on, the ESP and / or ABS warning light also comes on.
