Use a small lever or small tool (such as a flat blade screwdriver) to remove the plastic access cover from the lower interior trim panel of the tailgate. Push a silver lever located on the right through the access hole to unlock the tailgate. At this point, open the tailgate from the outside of the vehicle using the outside handle.
