Replacement of the Oil Seal

Model: Audi A3 8P, MK 2 - Years 2003-2013
Part: Engine

At the end of the crankshaft, there is the oil seal, a special gasket held on a rotating shaft, made of a rubber ring and retained by a metal housing. Its purpose is to prevent air from passing from the inside to the outside of the crankcase during the intake phase, while the piston rises, and to prevent the mixture from escaping from the crankcase to the outside during the compression phase, when the piston descends. Once the crankcase is opened, remove the oil seal with a flat screwdriver to extract it from its seat. During replacement, take care not to damage the bearing located behind the oil seal.
