This guide describes how to replace the engine oil and oil filter on a BMW GS R1200 Adventure. Obtain 4 litres of Bardahl XTX C60 SAE 15W50 oil and a MAHLE OC306 oil filter. Position the motorcycle on the centre stand. Start the engine, allow it to reach temperature, and then switch off. Place a container under the engine to collect the used oil. Use a 5 mm Allen key to remove the screws from the engine guard. Use a ratchet and a 14 mm socket to unscrew the oil drain plug located under the engine. Allow the oil to drain and clean the magnetic plug thoroughly. Use a 76 mm oil filter cup wrench to unscrew the oil filter located on the right side of the engine. Lubricate the seal of the new oil filter. Screw the filter in by hand first, then tighten it by one turn with the wrench. Refit the oil plug and the engine guard. Open the oil filler cap located on the right side of the engine casing using pliers or the appropriate tool. Pour in oil according to the level indicated on the inspection hole at the bottom of the casing. Start the engine for one minute and switch off. With the engine cold, recheck the oil level.
