Replacing the Remote Key Battery of a BMW R1200 GS 2015

In this video tutorial, you will learn how to disassemble and replace the battery of the remote key for a 2015 BMW R1200 GS. First, take your remote and remove the rear plastic cover by prying it off; this will give you access to the remote battery.

Remove the battery using a sharp object, and replace it with a new one of the correct type (in this case, a 2032 3V). Then, insert it in the correct orientation and reassemble the remote, securing the cover until it clicks into place!

In the case shown in the video, the new keys are not recognised by the ECU: the Vespa starts but does not run (thus the immobiliser is active). The solution shown in the video involves locating the immobiliser chip in the old key (the one recognised by the ECU). Open the cover on the key (only red master keys or some blue ones), remove the chip (which is a small black cylinder or rectangle), insert it into the new key in place of the new one, and try to start. Now the key will work. If the master key is red, it will definitely work. If it is blue, it might work: you need to cut the silicone; this is possible but a delicate operation. If it is a black clone key, then it is a system that does not work.
