Follow these step-by-step instructions to change the engine oil and oil filter while performing routine maintenance on a BMW R1200 R motorcycle. First, place the bike on the centre stand and warm up the engine for a few minutes; then, unscrew the oil drain bolt located under the engine using a socket spanner: allow the oil to drain for about ten minutes.

Now remove the oil filter, which is located next to the sump; unscrew it with the appropriate tool for replacement, and finally pour in the new oil of the correct type!
