This guide shows how to replace the engine oil on a BMW R1200R. The first step is to start the motorcycle engine for a few minutes to allow the oil to become more fluid. With the motorcycle on a stand, remove the lower protective cover using a Torx25. Use a Torx55 to unscrew the oil drain plug; make sure to use a container to dispose of the used oil properly. Next, use an oil filter wrench to unscrew the oil filter; clean the filter mounting surface and lubricate the seal of the new part before fitting it. Clean the drain plug and any spills, then refit the valve. From the tool kit under the seat, take the screwdriver handle; this will allow you to open the oil filler cap. On the right side of the motorcycle, open the cap with the tool just taken; fill the reservoir with new oil and replace the cap. Refit the protective cover. Run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the oil and check the level; top up if necessary. The operation is complete.
