Adjusting the AC Compressor Belt Tensioner

Model: BMW Serie 7 E38, MK 3 - Years 1994-2001
Part: V-belt

Adjusting the tensioner for the AC compressor drive belt is very simple: the tensioner is a pneumatic jack mounted to the engine block via a plate that allows for adjustment. The plate has a mounting pin that acts as a pivot and a slot for adjustment. First, loosen the pin with a 10 mm wrench located in the slot. Then, use a 17 mm wrench to rotate the plate to tension the auxiliary belt. While keeping the belt tensioned, tighten the 10 mm pin to secure the tensioner.
