How to change the engine oil and filter of a Citroen C3 DIY (do it yourself)

On your Citroen C3, the oil change is performed from underneath for the drainage and from the engine compartment for the filter replacement and topping up. Place the car on a flat surface and secure it on jack stands or a lift, work with the engine warm, and use a large container to collect the used oil, along with gloves and safety goggles. First, clear access from below by removing the lower protection if present. Position the container under the oil pan and unscrew the drain plug, allowing the oil to fully drain; when the flow reduces, clean the area and close the plug with its seal in good condition, without over-tightening.

Next, move on to the oil filter in the engine compartment: if a cover or a panel obstructs access, remove it just enough to reach the filter housing. Loosen the cover of the housing, remove the used cartridge, and check the cover gasket; if there is a replaceable seal, install it correctly and clean the mating surfaces before closing. Insert the new cartridge, reattach the cover, and restore the panel, ensuring there are no leaks and everything is properly seated. After reinstalling the lower protection, open the filler cap and pour in the oil of the correct specification for your C3 using a funnel, then start the engine for a few seconds and turn it off to allow the level to settle. Check the dipstick and top up if necessary, then also check from below for any leaks from the drain plug and filter area.
