Replacing the Cylinder Head Gasket

Excessive engine overheating can cause a loss of seal in the cylinder head gasket, leading to coolant consumption and an inability to maintain a constant engine temperature, as the fluid tends to boil. To replace the cylinder head gasket, you must remove the cylinder head itself by taking off all elements that interfere with it (engine mounts, timing belt, exhaust manifold, etc.). Once the cylinder head is on the bench, flatten the gasket seat with a block and very fine sandpaper, being careful not to lose the flatness of the surface (use a ground bar as a reference); it is advisable to have a professional machinist perform the flattening. Then install the new gasket, reassemble the cylinder head, tightening the bolts in a cross pattern and respecting the torque specifications. Reassemble everything that was previously removed, top up the coolant, start the engine, and wait for the fan to activate, ensuring the fluid does not boil; monitor the fluid level during the first few days.
