Video tutorial
To change the battery on a Citroën C3 II 1.4 HDi, you will need a 13 mm and an 8 mm socket wrench, a flat screwdriver, sandpaper, and copper grease. The battery is located in the engine bay on the right side. Note: above the battery is the ECU, which must be removed first. Disconnect the positive terminal (13 mm) and remove the ECU and the plastic box. Then disconnect the negative terminal (8 mm). Release the securing tabs and lift out the battery. Clean the terminals with sandpaper and apply copper grease. Insert the new battery (12V, same capacity and dimensions, positive on the right), secure it, reconnect the positive first and then the negative. Refit the ECU and cover. After reconnecting the battery, the C3 II may enter "ECO mode" (energy-saving) and not start the engine. To reset the BSI, the procedure is: disconnect the positive for 60 seconds, reconnect it, turn on the ignition for 30 seconds, turn off for 3 seconds, repeat 5 times, then start and let idle for 3 minutes. Alternatively, instead of the "3-minute" procedure: wait 3 minutes with the ignition off before disconnecting, then reconnect and wait 2 minutes before turning on. If the engine does not start, a diagnostic tool is needed to unlock the BSI.
