How to Overhaul the Starter Motor on a Citroen C3

Overhaul the starter motor on your Citroen C3. After removing the starter motor, unscrew the fixing pins and the coil screw; unscrew the pins that hold the coil in place. As you disassemble the parts, take note of where they go, or take photos to ensure correct reassembly! Remove the brush cover and check how worn they are. Detach the dust cover with a thin screwdriver, being careful not to damage it. Remove all the old grease from the gears and replace it with new grease. Now reattach the dust cover. Remove the cap with tweezers, and use them to also remove the circlip that holds the shaft and washers. After cleaning the housing, clean the contacts as well. Now you can reposition the winding and secure it with the circlip. Fit the spring onto the new support with slight pressure, then position the new brushes and the gasket. Place everything onto the starter motor, and while holding the support firmly, lower the springs. Leave the negative terminal inside and put the cover back in place. You are ready for assembly; grease and close everything up: job done, you can reposition the overhauled starter motor in its place.
