We have all wondered who produces the engines for DR, which assembles its vehicles in the province of Isernia. The engines are designed by the Austrian company AVI, a renowned engineering firm specialising in the development of powertrains, but they are built in China, 400 kilometres from Shanghai, in Wuhu, by the company Chery, founded in 1997. These engines are marketed under the name Acteco, an acronym that encompasses the origin and characteristics of the engine: "A" stands for "AVL", the Austrian company that designed it; "C" refers to "Chery", the Chinese company that built it; "T" stands for "Tech" (technology) and "CO" stands for "cooperation". In summary, DR engines are designed in Austria and built in China.
