How to Change the Gear Oil of a Fiat Grande Punto

To change the gear oil of the Fiat Grande Punto, you need gear oil with the Fiat specification 9.55550-M5, which can be found on auto-doc.it for £17.99 plus £9.95 shipping. Warm the oil slightly by driving a short distance to help it flow better. Lift the car and secure it on axle stands. Locate the fill plug on the side of the gearbox, higher up, which requires a 12mm Allen key; the drain plug is located at the lower rear of the gearbox (8mm Allen key). First, unscrew the fill plug (the one on top). This step is important to ensure you can open it BEFORE draining it completely (if it's stuck, you won't be able to go back). Position a container underneath and unscrew the drain plug (the one at the bottom) to let all the old oil out (which we will dispose of at an authorised centre). Refill with new oil through the side fill hole using a syringe or funnel. Add oil until it starts to overflow from the fill hole, indicating that you have reached the correct level. Fit a new plug and tighten it with the 12mm Allen key.
