Ford Focus Mk1: how to install a DIY rear stabilizer bar

On the Ford Focus, the installation of the rear stabilizer bar is carried out with the vehicle stationary and safely, working on the rear axle with access to the mounting points of the axle. The installation involves positioning the bar relative to the rear axle, aligning the brackets provided with the kit, and connecting the spacers/rods to the arms, keeping the component in place without preloading. The brackets are then placed in position and tightened progressively in an alternating manner, ensuring that the bar is centered and free to move. Once the bar is secured to the axle, the connections with the spacers are completed, checking that the joints operate in alignment and that the rubber bushings are properly seated. At the end of the work, a visual inspection of the contact points and any proximity to pipes or wiring is performed, followed by a check of the bolts for uniform tightening. With the vehicle back on the ground, a brief static test is conducted to verify the absence of play or interference, and a follow-up check of the tightening is planned after the first few kilometers of use.
