The Correct Procedure for Jump Starting a Car with Cables

This video shows the exact procedure for using jump leads to start a car in an emergency. It is not guaranteed that everyone knows the correct method to use, especially if you are in difficulty and under pressure. First, check that the batteries of both cars have the same voltage, then position them so that the two engine bays are as close together as possible, allowing the cables to reach both batteries easily. Both cars must be completely off, with nothing drawing power. Carefully unroll the cables, ensuring the batteries are in order. Connect the red clamp to the positive terminal of the flat battery, then the other red clamp to the positive terminal of the charged battery. Connect the first black clamp to the negative terminal of the charged battery and the second black clamp to an unpainted metal point on the broken-down vehicle. Start the rescue vehicle and let the engine run at idle for five minutes before attempting to start the faulty car. Once it starts, remove the cables in the reverse order of connection. The revived vehicle should run for about twenty minutes slightly above idle.
