For cleaning the chain, use a WD-40 additive or a specific chain cleaner (or white spirit as a last resort). Apply the chosen cleaner to all links of the chain while rotating it through its entire length: to do this, you will need to lift the rear wheel on a stand (be careful not to scratch the bike). Use a cloth for cleaning the chain, then apply the additive again with a specific chain brush that can be easily purchased online. Lubricate the chain thoroughly and remember to perform this maintenance periodically to extend its life.
