How to Replace the Steering Box on a Land Rover Defender

Model: Land Rover Defender MK 6 - Years 1990-2016

Replacing the steering box on a Land Rover Defender is a challenging task that requires first placing the vehicle on a flat surface to lift the front with a jack and jack stands, blocking the rear wheels. Start by disconnecting the battery for safety; remove the steering wheel by loosening the center nut and using a puller on the shaft if necessary. Disconnect the hydraulic power steering lines and detach the connections of the box from the steering rods. Unscrew the mounting bolts of the box from the frame and carefully remove it. Position the new box, bolt it to the frame, and reconnect the steering rods and hydraulic lines. Reinstall the steering wheel, reconnect the battery, and check the proper functioning of the steering, adjusting the alignment if necessary.
