Removing the Steering Wheel of a Land Rover Defender

Model: Land Rover Defender MK 5 - Years 1983-1990

Tools needed: Phillips screwdriver, 17mm hex wrench. To remove the steering wheel from the Land Rover Discovery, you only need some technique and skill. First, position the steering wheel with the front wheels perfectly straight. The front cover of the steering wheel is simply press-fitted. Just pull the cover towards you. At this point, you will notice the steering lock consisting of a central nut and two Phillips screws. Remove the two screws first, then loosen the nut without removing it. This will prevent the steering wheel from being pulled off suddenly and hitting the operator in the face. Grip the steering wheel firmly with both hands and alternately pull it towards you while rocking it first to the right and then to the left, until the central nut prevents further extraction. Now completely unscrew the nut and pull the steering wheel towards you.
