Let's see how to remove the central console of a Mazda 2 Skyactive: with the car turned off, put the gearshift in neutral. Start by pulling up the small plastic divider that separates the front cup holders.

Grab the rectangular storage compartment in front of the gearshift and pull it upwards: it is held in place by a clip. Remove the trim panel on the left side of the console (near the accelerator pedal).

This usually has two cross screws to remove, and then it unclips (to provide more maneuvering space). To remove the console, we must first remove the gear knob: simply unscrew it counterclockwise; on some versions there may be a clamp or a fastener under the leather cover.

Now the console is free. Pull it upwards, it is held to the floor only by plastic clips, but do it gently.

Check if there are any connected connectors, and if so, disconnect them. Now we can completely remove the console from the cabin.
