The removal of the hardtop of the Mercedes SL R107 is an operation for which a specific tool has been designed, to ensure safety and avoid damage. The roof is very heavy, so it must be removed only with the help of an assistant and only with the appropriate tool. Let's discover the release levers inside the car, under the windshield. There are two cover hinges that must be removed to reveal the two release levers. Pull down each lever; this will activate the mechanism that releases the front pins of the roof from the frame. Unlock the inner lining of the roof, which is held by clips. This will protect it from damage during storage. The Mercedes tool is a bar or a winch that attaches to the frame pillars of the car, above the doors. The tool will have adjustable hooks that attach to specific points on the hardtop. Use the tool to lift the roof a few centimeters; this will unload the weight and release the rear pins from their seats. Gently push the roof backwards. This is the crucial step to release the rear pins from their seat on the trunk. Now lift the roof and place it on its storage support.
